Joseph Duggar Arrested on Child Sex Abuse Charges

Former reality TV star Joseph Duggar has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a child. The case stems from allegations that he molested a minor during a 2020 vacation in Florida. Duggar, 31, known for TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting,” surrendered to police in Arkansas and authorities booked him into a county jail as prosecutors in Bay County, Florida, move forward with his case.

Investigators say Duggar engaged in illegal sexual activity with a 9‑year‑old girl on a family trip to Panama City Beach. The now‑14‑year‑old victim reported the abuse to police this week. Detectives responded with a forensic interview and launched a new investigation that led them to seek and obtain an arrest warrant.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office says the girl described multiple incidents of inappropriate contact. She told investigators Duggar repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap and later on a couch under a blanket, then inappropriately touched her under her clothing several times.

Police say Duggar later apologized to the girl, and the alleged incidents stopped after that. Earlier this month, the victim’s father confronted Joseph about the abuse. Duggar reportedly confessed to the father, then again to detectives in Tontitown, Arkansas, during a recorded phone call.

On Wednesday, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Duggar’s arrest in Tontitown. Prosecutors have charged him with lewd and lascivious behavior involving unlawful sexual contact with a minor, a Florida felony often linked to child molestation.

Duggar remains in Washington County, Arkansas, as authorities hold him pending extradition to Florida. There, prosecutors must prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt. Investigators expect medical records, forensic interview transcripts, and Duggar’s own admissions to play a key role.
