Shock After Pahalgam Attack
On April 22, 26 tourists were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Filmmaker Abhigyan Jha, known for Krishna Cottage and Jay Hind!, expressed deep sorrow. “My first thought was, ‘Not again,’ especially in Kashmir,” he said.
Kashmir’s Cultural Significance
Jha called Kashmir central to India’s heritage. “It’s not just a frontier, but the core,” he stated, pointing to its historical importance, including the Saraswati River and Sharda Peeth.
Religious Reform Needed
Jha argued that outdated religious ideologies, not individuals, are the problem. “Islam must evolve, just like other religions have,” he said, comparing it to reforms in Hinduism like the abolition of Sati.
Law and Religion Should Be Separate
Jha opposed religious laws like Sharia influencing national law. “Terms like ‘Kafir’ are divisive and should be outlawed,” he stressed.
Outlaw Extremist Ideologies
Jha called for legal action against extremist ideologies, particularly violent interpretations of Jihad. “If Jihad means war against ‘infidels,’ it must be banned,” he said.
Global Reforms Show Change is Possible
Jha pointed to reforms in countries like Saudi Arabia. “Islam hasn’t evolved in 100 years. It’s time to catch up,” he concluded
