Kevin Costner Sued for $440K Unpaid Horizon Costume Fees

Western Costume Company is suing Kevin Costner and his production company Territory Pictures for breach of contract. They say that the company didn’t pay about $440,000 in costume rental fees for Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2. The lawsuit says that an invoice for about $134,000 from 2024 was never paid, and it also says that the costumes were damaged and the payment rates were not agreed upon.

The complaint, which was filed in California state court on December 22, 2025, says that the production refused to return costumes in good condition or pay the agreed-upon amount. Western Costume is asking for $440,000 plus damages, which adds to the financial and legal problems that Costner is having with the self-funded Western epic. There have been no reports of Costner or Territory Pictures responding yet.

Furthermore, this is the second lawsuit about costumes for Horizon. In May 2025, United Costume Corporation sued Costner’s Horizon Series for $350,000 in unpaid rentals for Chapters 1 ($58,000) and 2 ($285,000). That case was settled in August 2025, but the terms were not made public. There were also other problems, such as New Line Cinema’s arbitration over co-financing breaches. Costner put $38 million of his own money into the first two chapters, which didn’t do well at the box office.

Horizon is under more scrutiny because a stunt performer is suing Costner in May 2025 for an unscripted rape scene without consent or safety measures. They want damages and changes like having intimacy coordinators on set. In August 2025, Costner asked for the claims to be thrown out, saying they were false. These fights show how hard it is to get money for Costner to finish the four-part series.
