Netflix’s ‘Last Samurai Standing’ Scores Season 2 Renewal: Samurai Epic Returns Bigger

Last Samurai Standing is about Shujiro Saga (Junichi Okada), an undefeated samurai who enters the deadly Kodoku tournament in Meiji-era Japan to save his family. The show mixes intense survival battles with historical drama. The series, based on the Naoki Prize-winning book Ikusagami, debuted on November 13, 2025, with all six episodes shown after the Busan Film Festival.

In Japan, Season 1 was at the top of the Netflix charts for four weeks. It was also at the top of the Global Top 10 Non-English Series and in the Top 10 in 88 other countries. It got a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes for its exciting action and appeal around the world.

In Season 2, Shujiro races to Tokyo with young Futaba Katsuki (Yumia Fujisaki) as the Kodoku battles get worse. He uncovers conspiracies and reunites with his siblings against old enemies. Fujii promises a bigger and better show, with Okada starring, producing, and choreographing the action.

There isn’t an official release date yet, but the production schedule suggests that it will come out in late 2027, after Season 1. Expect to see old cast members like Okada and Fujisaki again, as well as new warriors in the high-stakes story.
