Lenny Dykstra Faces Drug Charges After PA Traffic Stop

After being pulled over on New Year’s Day, Lenny Dykstra, a former outfielder for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies who is known as “Nails,” is facing drug charges. During the incident in Pike County, Pennsylvania State Police found drugs and drug-related items. The 62-year-old former player is facing charges.

Around midnight on January 1, a state trooper pulled over a 2015 GMC Sierra in Blooming Grove Township, Pike County, which is about 25 miles east of Scranton, where Dykstra lives. Dykstra was not the driver of the car; he was a passenger. He had drugs and drug-related items on him. He wasn’t charged with being impaired or arrested at the scene; formal charges would be filed later.

Matthew Blit, Dykstra’s lawyer, said that the car did not belong to his client and that any charges “will be quickly dropped.” Blit stressed that Dykstra was not drunk and that no one was arrested at the scene. The lawyer said they would send a full statement soon.

Dykstra, who was known as “Nails” because of his tough style, played 12 seasons in the MLB. He hit.285 with 81 home runs, 404 RBIs, and 285 stolen bases. He won the World Series with the Mets in 1986 and again with the Phillies in 1993. He was also named an All-Star three times. After he retired, he started his own businesses.

Dykstra has had a lot of problems, like going to prison in California in 2012 for grand theft auto, making false financial statements, and filing for bankruptcy after saying he owed $31 million. In 2018, drug and threat charges from an Uber incident were dropped, even though cocaine, MDMA, and marijuana were found. He had a stroke in 2024.
