Leonardo DiCaprio Champions Original Films in Awards Speech

Leonardo DiCaprio gave a powerful video acceptance speech at the Palm Springs International Film Awards. He talked about the fight for original films in Hollywood, which is getting harder and harder. He wasn’t there because of flight problems caused by Venezuela’s political unrest, but he still defended the lasting power of movies over streaming content.

DiCaprio thanked director Paul Thomas Anderson for making One Battle After Another “bold and original.” The movie was filmed in VistaVision, which is rare and gives the movie better scale and texture. He thought back to his childhood at LA’s Vista Theater, which showed how deeply shared theater experiences shape us. “Making original movies is harder and protecting them is harder, but movies still matter not content, but cinema,” he said, calling for people to tell stories together in dark rooms.

DiCaprio got the Desert Palm Achievement Award after One Battle After Another won Best Film from the National Board of Review, with him as Best Actor and Anderson as Best Director. Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti, who both starred in the show, gave the tribute at a gala honoring stars like Timothée Chalamet and Adam Sandler. The event brought attention to the growing buzz about awards for the thriller.
