Somy Ali is an actress who runs a US-based NGO called No More Tears. She works tirelessly for the victims of domestic abuse and rape, especially kids and women. She says that seeing the light of hope in a child’s eyes is what love means to her.
Somy Ali’s Definition of Love
Somy Ali does not believe in the stereotypical romantic notion of love. She says that she feels an unconditional gratitude and appreciation for the children that she saves from abuse and trafficking. She says that their sense of belonging and security, and how they thank her, makes her fall in love with them.
“I work directly with the victims, when a child or a group of children we have rescued from abuse or are about to be sold into trafficking, hug me and say that they love me, there is no romantic love in the world that can even come close to those words coming from a child’s mouth,” she says.
Somy Ali’s Valentine’s Day Plans
Somy Ali is single and happy. She says that she spends her Valentine’s Day with the victims that she has rescued. She says that she can’t think of a better place to be than with her children. She says that she did not have any children of her own because of her work and the risks involved. She says that the children under the care of her NGO are her Valentines and the day spent with them fills her maternal instincts.
“I have been doing this for 17 years now. Above all, I know it’s loyal and will always be there unconditionally,” she says.
Somy Ali’s Views on Romantic Love
Somy Ali admits that she is cynical about romantic love. She says that life has made her so from her relationships and what she has seen through her NGO. She says that love is like a scalpel that cuts you without anaesthesia. She says that love is beautiful, yet deceitful, promising, yet disappointing. She says that she has been lied to and deceived too many times, by her family and intimate partners. She says that she has no illusions or ghosts to chase related to love. She says that she made a promise to herself and she is not afraid of breaking it.
“Here’s the truth: It is hard to be in love with someone who is in love with someone else. I don’t know how to turn that into poetry,” she says
