Actor Mahir Pandhi, known for roles in Vanshaj, Choti Sarrdaarni, and Congrats My Ex, takes on the iconic characters of Baali and Sugreev in the new show Veer Hanuman. In an exclusive interview, Mahir shares how the show portrays these characters in a fresh light.
Baali and Sugreev: More Than Just Mythology
While Baali and Sugreev are central to Hanuman’s journey, their stories have often been overlooked. Mahir believes their role is more significant than what traditional narratives show. “Baali and Sugreev were integral to Hanuman’s journey, from his birth to his meeting with Lord Ram,” Mahir says. “These untold stories are often ignored to avoid controversy. We’re choosing to focus more on their historical journey.”
A Fresh Take on History
Mahir’s preparation for the role involved deep research into historical records. “We studied the available historical evidence to understand how Baali and Sugreev have been defined,” he explains. One surprising discovery was the absence of a widely recognized image of the characters. “This gave us a unique opportunity to define them in our own way,” Mahir adds.
Redefining Strength and Power
Mahir addresses the misconception that only heavily built actors can play powerful characters like Baali and Sugreev. “Strength in those times wasn’t about muscle mass,” he explains. “We focused on portraying the true strength of these characters—power that goes beyond physical appearance.”
Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Vision
Producer Siddharth Kumar Tewary envisioned Mahir for the role of Baali and Sugreev. “Siddharth sir wanted me specifically for these roles,” Mahir reveals. “We had in-depth discussions about history and culture, and by the time we met again, I was already deeply connected to the characters.”
A New Era of Mythological Storytelling
With Veer Hanuman, Mahir brings a new perspective to Baali and Sugreev. The show blends history with innovation, offering a fresh take on these beloved figures. Produced by Siddharth Kumar Tewary, Veer Hanuman promises to redefine mythological storytelling for a modern audience.
