Mia Carragher, daughter of Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, plays the brave Katniss Everdeen in the world premiere of The Hunger Games: On Stage at London’s Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre. This is her first time on stage as a professional actress. The show, which was based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling book and Lionsgate’s movie, opened in October 2025 after ten years of development. It had a custom-built 1,200-seat theater-in-the-round for immersive action. Matthew Dunster directed the show, which uses high-tech effects, illusions, and choreography to make Panem’s dystopian arena come to life.
Furthermore, Carragher, who is known for his roles on TV shows like The Gathering, trained hard in archery and does nonstop action, like flying chariots, climbing trees in flames, and intense arena battles as tributes fight to stay alive. The story is told from Katniss’s point of view, with monologues, moving seating sections that look like the 12 districts, and unexpected things like synchronized dance in the middle of chaos. Euan Garrett plays Peeta Mellark, and the cast is great, with Joshua Lacey as Haymitch and John Malkovich as President Snow via video.
In addition, the first previews had to be changed to make the show shorter, to 2.5 hours, but reviews praise the show for its spectacle, technical wizardry, and Carragher’s athletic portrayal of Katniss’s vulnerability and rebellion against the Capitol. The show will run until October 2026, and its themes of hierarchy, survival, and defiance are still relevant today, which is why Hunger Games fans love it.
