Michael DeLano, Beloved ‘Rhoda’ Actor and Casino Manager in ‘Ocean’s Eleven,’ Dies at 84

Michael DeLano, famed for his role as lounge singer Johnny Venture on CBS’s “Rhoda” and casino manager in the “Ocean’s Eleven” films, died on October 20 at 84 in a Las Vegas hospital following a heart attack, said his wife Jean, to whom he was married 28 years.

DeLano began his career in the 1960s as singer Key Larson before becoming an actor over five decades. Early notable TV roles included firefighter Sonny Caputo in ABC’s short-lived 1974 drama “Firehouse.” He appeared in 11 episodes of “Rhoda” from 1976-78, where his character’s romantic attempts were a fan favorite. His TV work spanned “Supertrain,” “The Rockford Files,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Hill Street Blues,” and others, showcasing his versatility.

In film, besides “Ocean’s Eleven” (2001) and “Ocean’s Twelve” (2004), DeLano was Forrestal in 1985’s “Commando” with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also acted in “Another Stakeout,” “Father Hood,” and made TV appearances into the 2010s, maintaining consistent work.

Born Michael Ace Del Fatti on November 26, 1940, in Virginia, he was raised in Philadelphia. Before acting, he danced on “American Bandstand” and served in the U.S. Army. A Las Vegas resident since 1992, he also performed classic songs at the Dispensary Lounge until his later years.

He is survived by wife Jean, daughter Bree, sons Michael and Lincoln, and granddaughter Jaxon. A celebration of life is planned to honor his legacy and his impressive contributions to TV and film.
