Netflix has announced a daring lineup of seven Chinese-language original series for 2026. The shows will be made in Taiwan because of streaming restrictions in mainland China. This list of shows focuses on darker, genre-based stories like medical dramas and psychological thrillers, with big names like Wallace Huo, Ethan Ruan, and Gigi Leung.
Wallace Huo plays the head of an emergency room in a Taipei hospital that is dealing with problems and moral issues. The show will air in the fourth quarter of 2026. Wong Ching-po’s psychological thriller stars Ethan Ruan and Gingle Wang as they uncover family secrets that have been passed down through generations because of violence in Taipei.
“Bloody Smart” and “The Fixers”: A “Bloodfruit Tree” disrupts a school community, and an action-comedy with a gangster in a temple-linked fixer network is another example of a genre blend. A musical drama about the fall of a once-famous rock star. More movies, like “How to Survive Med School” and “Pacify” (a supernatural sci-fi), are almost done being made.
Since 2020, Netflix has been investing in local training programs in Taiwan to build talent and make it the center of its Mandarin content. Executives say that the slate’s “darker, ambitious” tone will appeal to Chinese-speaking audiences all over the world. This adds to early 2026 releases like Left-Handed Girl, a family drama edited by Sean Baker that won the Cannes Film Festival and is now Taiwan’s entry for the Oscars.
