Mumbai, January 15, 2026:
Netflix India has announced its licensed Tamil cinema slate for 2026. The announcement coincides with Pongal, reinforcing the platform’s growing focus on South Indian storytelling.
The upcoming titles will release in theatres first. They will stream exclusively on Netflix after their cinematic run.
A Strong Foundation from 2025 Success
Netflix enters 2026 on the back of a landmark year for Tamil content. In 2025, mass entertainers and content-driven films performed strongly on the platform.
Fan favourites such as Idli Kadai, Dragon, Dude, and Good Bad Ugly drew wide viewership. Critically acclaimed titles like Bison and Kaantha further expanded Netflix’s Tamil portfolio.
Star-Led Films Define the 2026 Lineup
The 2026 slate brings together leading stars and acclaimed filmmakers.
Dhanush returns in Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja.
Suriya anchors two distinct projects—Suriya 46 by Venky Atluri and Suriya 47 by Jithu Madhavan.
Karthi and Kalyani Priyadarshan lead the action drama Marshal.
New Creative Chapters and Genre Variety
Ravi Mohan steps behind the camera with his directorial debut An Ordinary Man, starring Yogi Babu. He also leads and produces Production No. 1, co-starring S.J. Suryah.
The slate spans action, drama, crime, and humour. It reflects Tamil cinema’s evolving storytelling ambitions.
Netflix on Tamil Cinema’s Global Reach
Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, highlighted the genre diversity and global appeal of Tamil films.
She noted that Tamil cinema continues to travel well on Netflix, finding audiences across India and overseas. She also reaffirmed Netflix’s commitment to backing bold, content-led films across formats and voices.
A Theatrical-First Path to Global Audiences
All titles in the 2026 Tamil slate will debut in cinemas. Following their theatrical run, they will reach global audiences exclusively on Netflix.
With festival timing, star power, and strong narratives, Netflix’s Tamil slate for 2026 promises a year of high-impact cinema.
