The Role of IFFI in Global Cinema
Basu highlighted the importance of festivals like IFFI in connecting Indian audiences with global cinema. “IFFI showcases diverse content, especially from independent filmmakers who may not follow traditional routes. These festivals bring fresh perspectives and inspire creativity.”
Learning from Masterclasses and Meeting Filmmakers
Basu also enjoyed the masterclasses at the festival. She met renowned filmmakers like Ashutosh Gowariker and Rahul Rawail, sharing, “The masterclasses were enriching. I had an amazing time chatting with Ashutosh Gowariker and Rahul Rawail. It was inspiring to meet such legends, and I was proud that friends like Meera Chopra, Akhil Kapoor, and Manjari Fadnavis had their films showcased.”
A TV Industry Veteran’s Perspective
As someone from the TV industry, Basu reflected on her excitement about attending IFFI, an event she had only heard about. “Being in TV, it’s always about progression. I was surprised and grateful to find that some people were familiar with my work. My advice to aspiring filmmakers is: keep working hard, and recognition will follow.”
The Impact of OTT Platforms
Basu also acknowledged the growing role of OTT platforms in cinema. “OTT platforms are game-changers. DD launched its own free OTT platform this year, which creates healthy competition. These platforms offer global reach, complementing traditional cinema by opening new storytelling avenues.”
Advice to Aspiring Filmmakers
Basu concluded by encouraging young filmmakers, saying, “IFFI provides a global platform for creators. To aspiring filmmakers: don’t stop dreaming and creating. Your work will find its audience, and though the journey may be challenging, it’s worth the effort. Keep pushing boundaries!”
With her inspiring message, Nivedita Basu continues to motivate the next generation of filmmakers to pursue their dreams and contribute to the ever-evolving world of cinema.
