Bringing a Beloved Book to Screen
Director Prashant Singh, who has directed Dehati Ladke, is back with yet another adaptation—Pyar Paisa Profit, on Durjoy Datta’s 2008 novel Now That You’re Rich. Let’s Fall in Love!. “It is never an easy task to adapt a book, let alone one with a loyal fan following,” he revealed. “It is a task fraught with responsibility.”
Updating the Story for 2025
Although the emotional essence is intact, Singh stated that the story needed a revamp. “We’ve retained the heart of the story—the characters, what they want, the emotional journey,” he explained. “But we modernized the setting and dynamics to make it the world today.”
Durjoy Datta’s Involvement Helped
Having Durjoy on board was a big help. “Durjoy was involved in the process all the time. His suggestions made us keep to the essence of the book,” Singh said.
Adapting Isn’t Copy-Paste
“Certain things that look great on page aren’t quite as good on screen,” Singh conceded. “We had to omit a couple of sections readers might adore, but it was required to do justice to the story on screen.”
Page to Screen—The Biggest Challenge
Books permit going deep into characters’ minds. “You can dwell on a moment in a book,” Singh explained. “But a show requires pace. The most challenging part was deciding what to leave out while still meeting the emotional marks.”
Characters Get Better with Age
“The characters remain essentially the same,” Singh explained. “But their decisions and responses had to adapt. The world has changed—and so have people.”
Keeping It Real, Relatable, and Fast-Paced
To keep the audience engaged, Singh and his team made the storytelling sharper. “We didn’t do anything for the sake of doing it. Every choice was made with love for the original.”
Pyar, Paisa, or Profit?
When asked to pick between money, love, and success, Singh chuckled and said, “Profit in both Pyar and Paisa!”
