To mark Raj Kapoor’s 100th birth anniversary, a special nationwide retrospective will be held from December 13 to 15, 2024. Presented by R.K. Films, Film Heritage Foundation, and NFDC-National Film Archive of India, the event will showcase ten iconic films across 40 cities and 135 cinemas at PVR-Inox and Cinepolis theaters, with tickets priced at ₹100.
Raj Kapoor: A Cinematic Legend
Raj Kapoor (1924–1988) is one of India’s most influential filmmakers. Known as The Greatest Showman, Kapoor’s films, such as Awaara (1951), Shree 420 (1955), and Sangam (1964), explored universal themes like love, justice, and the common man’s dreams. His tramp character, inspired by Charlie Chaplin, earned him global fame, particularly in the Soviet Union.
Kapoor’s accolades include the Padma Bhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and several Filmfare Awards. His films were featured at prestigious festivals, including Cannes and Karlovy Vary.

Kapoor’s family continues to honor his legacy. Randhir Kapoor said, “Raj Kapoor was a visionary whose films connected generations.” Ranbir Kapoor added, “We stand on the shoulders of a giant, and this festival celebrates his timeless stories.”
