‘Sky Force’ Pays Tribute to Squadron Leader Devayya’s Heroic Legacy
The upcoming film Sky Force, releasing January 24, 2025, tells the story of Squadron Leader Devayya, a legendary pilot of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and hero of the 1965 Indo-Pak War.
The Heroic Mission
Devayya gained fame for his daring mission to destroy Sargodha Air Base and his legendary dogfight with the F-104 Starfighter. He became the only IAF pilot to down the advanced jet. Despite heavy damage to his Mystère, he crashed in Pakistani territory, sacrificing his life.
Posthumous Recognition
Devayya was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra in 1988, 23 years after his death, making him the only IAF officer to receive the honor posthumously.

Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, Sky Force stars Akshay Kumar and debutant Veer Pahariya as Squadron Leader Devayya. Pahariya’s dedication to the role, including meeting Devayya’s family, brings authenticity to his portrayal.
