On January 7, 2026, an ICE agent shot three times into Renee Nicole Good’s SUV while she was driving in Minneapolis. She was 37 years old. Video showed agents approaching the car while traffic was stopped by parked ICE vehicles. The agent shot Good as she tried to drive away. Brian O’Hara, the police chief of Minneapolis, said that Good was not the target of the raid. This led to protests right away and a split between local and federal accounts.
Renee Nicole Good lived in the Twin Cities with her partner and their young child, who was about four to six years old and was at school at the time of the event. Her mother, Donna Ganger, said that she was “one of the kindest people” and spent her whole life taking care of others. She said that her daughter was loving, forgiving, and caring.
On Truth Social, President Donald Trump defended the agent by saying that Good “violently, willfully, and viciously ran over” the officer in self-defense. He also blamed the “Radical Left” for threats against ICE. DHS said that Good ignored orders to leave, turned around in her car, and drove toward agents, calling it “domestic terrorism.” Federal officials stressed that the shots were defensive, even though the videos didn’t show any injuries.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called DHS’s claims a “garbage narrative” and told ICE to “get the f*** out of our city.” Governor Tim Walz warned that operations could put public safety at risk. Democrats, like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, called for a criminal investigation. The FBI is looking into the situation because there are conflicting reports from witnesses about how long it took for Good to get help. Protests and vigils followed, showing how tense things were in Minnesota because of ICE actions.
