In Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, Chhath Puja is a very important and joyful festival that is marked with great devotion. This ancient festival honors Chhathi Maiyya and Surya Bhagwan and shows how people and nature can live together in peace. It combines gratitude with old practices. Richa Sony is the actress who portrays Rani Sa (Pinni’s Daadi) in the well-known show Shaitani Rasmein on Star Bharat. She recently talked about her special memories of Chhath Puja and said it was one of her favourite childhood memories.
Richa talked about her family history and said, “I come from a Bengali family, but my heart is in Bihar.” As a child, I lived in Bihar and learned about its rich culture. Bihari practices became a part of who I am. For example, Chhath Puja is more than just a holiday; it’s a time for everyone to come together and show their love for Surya Bhagwan. Along with our friends, our family would give the sun water and milk as it rose and set. The mood of Diwali seemed to carry over into Chhath, which added to the happiness. The warm memories of setting off fireworks with family and friends are still very dear to me.
“As I grew older, I realized Chhath Puja is more than a celebration—it’s a spiritual connection with nature and the divine,” she said, her eyes shining with memories. People do rituals and fasting with a lot of dedication, but when I was a kid, all I saw was the happiness it brought. The day we made jaggery, kheer, and puris was always my favourite part. It was called “Kharna.” The taste will stay with you! “Chhath Puja grounds us in love and devotion to Chhathi Maiyya and Surya Bhagwan. It reminds us of love, faith, and family.”
Watch Shaitani Rasmein on Star Bharat every Monday through Saturday at 10 p.m., and join Richa Sony as she shows her love for custom on and off the screen.
