Oscar‑nominated actress and long‑time MeToo supporter Rosanna Arquette has hit back at Harvey Weinstein’s recent prison interview in which he tries to downplay multiple sexual assault claims as “exaggerated.” Arquette forcefully rejects his attempt to reframe events, calling his narrative a distortion of the truth and insisting that the assaults and rapes “happened.”
Weinstein, currently serving time for rape and sexual assault at Rikers Island, denies any wrongdoing in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He claims that several high‑profile women—including Arquette, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Angelina Jolie—made their stories sound worse than they really were, saying they “wanted to be part of the club” and “destroyed” him. That remark has reignited anger among survivors and within the entertainment industry.
In a detailed written response shared widely online, Arquette states:
“When it comes to the events that led to Harvey Weinstein’s convictions, plural, by juries of his peers, here are the facts: The assaults happened. The rapes happened.”
She emphasizes that two juries, investigators, journalists, and prosecutors have already reviewed the evidence, and that Weinstein received full due process with elite legal representation—yet he remains convicted and incarcerated. Arquette adds that her story has “never changed” and that she “never” exaggerated what she endured.
Arquette also notes that investigative reporting, including work by Ronan Farrow, corroborates the pattern of retaliatory blackballing she experienced after rejecting Weinstein’s advances. She urges the public and Hollywood to center truth and survivor dignity instead of indulging what she calls a “highly skilled storyteller” rewriting history.
At the same time, she acknowledges that Rikers Island is a brutal, inhumane environment and calls for its closure, stressing that every inmate’s human rights matter—while still refusing to accept Weinstein’s victim‑hood narrative.
