Mumbai, February 2026 – Television star Rupali Ganguly opened up on older people abuse and the importance of caring for older people while reflecting on her role in the hit show Anupama, produced by Rajan Shahi and Deepa Shahi.
Anupama Highlights a Socially Relevant Issue
In the current storyline, viewers see Hansmukh (played by Arvind Vaidya) seeking Anupama’s help after learning that his son and daughter-in-law are mistreating him and his wife. The plot brings attention to how many older people are treated like servants in their own homes, forced into chores, and often deprived of proper meals.
Through this track, the show emphasizes a socially relevant topic while keeping audiences engaged.
Rupali’s Deep Bond with Older people
Rupali reflected on her long-standing connection with the older people, whom she affectionately calls “older babies.” She shared, “When I was in college, I used to volunteer at old-age homes. I even made a documentary on an old-age home in Andheri East, highlighting the heartbreaking stories of old people abandoned by their children.”
She emphasized that while old people need care like children, they also deserve respect. “You can’t trick them—they’ve lived life. They want our time and someone to listen to their stories,” she added.
Lessons from Family History
Rupali recounted her father’s struggles, sleeping on pavements and sharing rooms with strangers to achieve his dreams. She also spoke about her father-in-law’s experiences as a foot soldier in World War II, surviving near-death situations and sharing life lessons through his stories.
“All they need is patience and a listening ear,” she said. “In return, you receive unimaginable love.” She also stressed the importance of teaching her son, Rudransh, to cherish time with his grandparents, noting that their guidance is irreplaceable.
Cherishing Every Moment
Rupali urged families to value every moment with their elders. “As they age, you never know which moment might be the last,” she said. “Old people have life lessons we must remember and pass on to our children.”
She also shared a heartfelt song she wrote for her parents, celebrating their love, guidance, and sacrifices.
A Personal Mission Against Elder Neglect
Rupali described her visit to Gauri Gopal Ashram, where she saw women abandoned by their children. “It was heartbreaking to witness mothers ignored by the very children they raised. There is no greater sin than abandoning your parents,” she said.
Grateful that her own mother and mother-in-law are still with her, she shared a viral video of her mother dancing to Shararat, now even receiving more party invitations than her son Vijay Ganguly.
Dreams for a Golden Community
Rupali concluded by sharing a personal dream: “I want to build an animal shelter where golden olders abandoned by their families can live, cared for in a loving community.” She thanked Rajan Shahi for giving her the platform through Anupama to raise awareness and hopes to make this dream a reality.
