Ryan Reynolds Shines Light on Nature’s Misfits in National Geographic’s ‘UNDERDOGS’.

Premiering June 19, the docu-series puts the animal kingdom’s outcasts in the spotlight — with Reynolds’ trademark humor.

National Geographic is shifting the focus away from majestic lions and powerful whales. It is focusing on nature’s unsung heroes in its new five-part series UNDERDOGS. The series pays tribute to the weird, wild, and wonderfully underappreciated.

The series is narrated by Ryan Reynolds and debuts June 19, every Thursday and Friday at 8 PM on National Geographic.

Ryan Reynolds Brings Humor and Heart

“Working with Nat Geo was a dream,” Reynolds states. “Primarily because I get to now watch something I created with my kids. Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t work so well with all the screaming.”

Reynolds, famous for being witty, adds a comedic tone to the show while bringing the lesser-known natural world stars into focus.

From Glowworms to Gross-outs

Every show goes in-depth into a topic—such as weird mating practices, mastermind deceptions, superhuman abilities, and gross-out behaviors.

Hold on for never-before-seen scenes, such as a bioluminescent cave in New Zealand illuminated by mucus-covered insects. Such underdogs are not necessarily cute, but they are vital to the balance of the world.

A-List Talent Behind the Camera—and Mic

The series has been produced by Wildstar Films (a Fremantle business) and Maximum Effort. With Emmy® and BAFTA-winning storytelling and visuals, UNDERDOGS boasts of the best production quality.

The show has award-winning composer Harry Gregson-Williams (Shrek, The Martian) creating music for the soundtrack, and a theme song “Underdog” sung by Green Day, now streaming on all leading platforms.

How to Watch in India

UNDERDOGS is broadcast on National Geographic Channel in India, distributed by JioStar (a joint venture between Reliance and Disney). The series will also be streaming through channels such as Disney+ Hotstar.
