Saanand Verma prepares for his next big-screen adventure in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, hitting theaters July 11, co-starring Vikrant Massey and debutante Shanaya Kapoor. He, expresses excitement for its release.
A Fun, Talkative Driver
Saanand has the role of Shauki Lal, a fun-loving, chatty driver who maintains the humor. In this film, Saanand portrays Shauki Lal on his adventure in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, and the character brings a crucial element of comic relief.
“He’s like Basanti from Sholay — always yapping, always driving. His energy and humour raise the film,” says Saanand.
From Gutkha to Natural Charm
At first, Saanand envisioned Shauki Lal as a gutkha-spitting driver.
“But director Santosh Singh advised us on set to drop that. It worked better — more natural,” he relates. It’s something Saanand appreciates, as it allowed the character development to evolve with the story.
Real-Life Inspiration
Saanand drew from years of observing chatty drivers. This approach was essential for bringing authenticity to his role in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, capturing the essence Saanand Verma envisioned.
“I’ve played fast-talking characters for over 11 years. I’ve met many lively, expressive drivers, and that helped shape Shauki.”
Thrills on Uttarakhand Roads
Driving scenes were filmed on tough hill roads, adding a thrilling component to Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, with Saanand Verma capturing the real-life excitement.
“But I’ve been driving for 22 years — it was fun for me,” he adds.
Joy of Working With the Team
Saanand praises the team spirit on set. His experiences in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan not only showcase Saanand Verma’s skills but also highlight the collaborative effort behind the film.
“Vikrant is intense and brilliant. Shanaya impressed one and all — humble, hardworking, and tearful in her scenes.”
He refers to Santosh Singh as “a great director and human” and is thankful he persuaded him to cast the role.
Why Cinema First
Saanand Verma continues to cherish his role on Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan and adores all media but adds cinema possesses unparalleled magic.
“The magic of the big screen never fades. OTT and TV are good, but film is unbeatable.”
