For over 20 years, producers Sanjay and Binaiferr Kohli have been shaping the landscape of Indian television with iconic comedy shows like Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai and Happu Ki Ultan Paltan. Their commitment to long-term relationships with cast and crew has been key to their success, fostering a loyal team that delivers consistent, high-quality entertainment.
A Loyal Cast of Talented Actors
Sanjay and Binaiferr Kohli are known for their strong, enduring partnerships with actors. Their team often includes the same talented faces across multiple shows, which speaks to the trust and respect they build with their cast.
“Our artists have been with us for over 17 years,” says Sanjay. “Comedy demands great timing, and we’re lucky to work with talented actors like Shubhangi Atre, Aasif Sheikh, and Rohitashv Gour. They bring incredible chemistry to Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai.”
Yogesh Tripathi, initially cast for just one episode, has become a staple of the show. “His performance was so remarkable that we kept him on,” says Binaiferr. “Even his Bundeli accent became a unique element of the show’s success.”
Celebrating Theatre Actors’ Discipline
The Kohli duo values the professionalism and discipline that theater-trained actors bring to the table. “Theater actors immerse themselves in their roles quickly,” says Binaiferr. Aasif Sheikh, for example, has played multiple roles on Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, showcasing his ability to adapt and perform with remarkable versatility.
Binaiferr also fondly recalls working with Hiba Nawab, star of their hit show Jijaji Chhat Par Hai. “Hiba is like a daughter to me, and her discipline and energy were vital to the show’s success,” she adds.
Behind the Scenes: A Dedicated Team of Technicians
The Kohli’s production success also owes much to their loyal and skilled technicians. Cameraman Raja Dada, who has worked with the duo since their first show, remains a cornerstone of their team. “He’s been with us through everything,” says Sanjay.
Director Shashank Bali, who joined as an assistant, has grown alongside the duo. “Shashank is now like a younger brother to me. His fresh ideas and ability to execute them have made him an invaluable part of our team,” shares Sanjay.
Writers like Raghuvir Sheikhawat and Manoj Shantoshi also play a crucial role. “Raghuvir wrote Family Number One for us, and he’s now writing for Happu Ki Ultan Paltan,” says Binaiferr. “Manoj’s unique writing style has been instrumental in the success of our comedy shows.”
A Family-Like Atmosphere on Set
The Kohli duo is known for their warm, family-like approach to working with their team. “I can be strict, but my technicians and artists know they can count on me,” says Binaiferr. The Kohlis foster a sense of loyalty and mutual support, ensuring that everyone feels valued.
Art director Arup, who started as an assistant, is another success story. “Arup’s dedication stood out from the beginning, and now he’s a senior figure in the industry,” says Binaiferr. “It’s important to nurture talent within your team.”
Creating Timeless Comedy
The key to the Kohli duo’s success is their unwavering commitment to quality and collaboration. With Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai and Happu Ki Ultan Paltan continuing to entertain millions, Sanjay and Binaiferr Kohli have earned their place as pioneers in the world of Indian television comedy.
As they continue to innovate and create, their dedication to their craft and their team ensures that their shows will keep making audiences laugh for years to come.
