Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Ties Wilt Chamberlain’s 20-Point Streak Record

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a star for the Oklahoma City Thunder, has made history in the NBA by tying Wilt Chamberlain’s famous record of 126 straight games with at least 20 points. The current MVP hit a clutch step-back 3-pointer late in the third quarter against the Denver Nuggets to seal the milestone. He finished with 22 points in a strong performance.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s streak started when he scored 18 points against the San Antonio Spurs on October 30, 2024. Since then, he has averaged 32.5 points per game, bringing his total to over 4,000 points. Five times he scored more than 50 points, including a career-high 55 against the Indiana Pacers this season. Chamberlain set the record in 1961–62, when the game was played differently and he scored a lot more points.

SGA’s steady play has helped the Thunder win, and on Thursday at home against the Boston Celtics, he will be one game away from breaking the record. He has gotten a lot of free throws during the streak, averaging 8.13 points from 9.08 attempts. This is much less than Chamberlain’s 2,048 trips to the line in 126 games. This accomplishment shows how Gilgeous-Alexander has become one of the best scorers in modern NBA history.
