Filmmaker Advocates Creative Excellence and Global Collaboration
Mumbai, India – April 10, 2025 – Shoojit Sircar headlined the ‘Perspectives for Change’ panel at the Content India Summit 2025, hosted by Dish TV Watcho and C21 Media. The event brought together industry leaders to discuss the future of India’s entertainment sector and the shifts needed to stay globally competitive.
Creative Recalibration
Sircar, known for Piku, Pink, and Sardar Udham, stressed the importance of creative excellence, noting that viewers still engage with long-form content if it’s compelling. “It’s not about length—it’s about creative excellence that will bring audiences back,” he said.
Balancing Theatrical and Digital
Sircar discussed the need for both theatrical and digital platforms, sharing his experience with films like those by Martin Scorsese. “We need to create that same hunger for great storytelling,” he emphasized.
Stronger Industry Infrastructure
He highlighted the industry’s need for better support structures. “I need multiple production houses. If one doesn’t understand my story, I need to take it elsewhere,” Sircar said, stressing challenges post-COVID.
Global Distribution Partnerships
Sircar called for stronger international distribution partnerships. “My films screen in 700 theaters, but I lack the global reach. That’s essential for the future,” he shared.
Bold Storytelling and Innovation
Echoing the summit’s mission, Sircar emphasized bold storytelling. “True innovation comes from storytelling, not just technology,” he said, calling for more global collaborations and original content.
Rising Costs and India’s ‘Jugaad’ Approach
Addressing rising production costs, Sircar praised India’s “jugaad” mentality for overcoming financial challenges while maintaining quality.
A Vision for the Future
The summit set the stage for industry transformation, with Sircar’s vision of creative excellence and global collaboration resonating throughout. His insights remain key to India’s growth in global entertainment.
