Former Bollywood actress Somy Ali opens up about the harsh truths behind her nonprofit, No More Tears, and the personal cost of saving lives.
A Daily Battle for Survival
Since founding No More Tears (NMT) in 2007, Somy Ali has been on the front lines rescuing victims of human trafficking, domestic abuse, and sexual violence.
“Every single day is a war zone. A battlefield where we fight for lives the world has given up on.”
She’s survived nine attacks herself. But her mission hasn’t slowed down.
“I wish I could say things are getting better. But that would be a lie.”
A Crisis That’s Only Growing
Cases of domestic violence and human trafficking are rising. And they often overlap.
“Eleven-year-olds are being sold. Pregnant women are beaten. LGBTQ+ kids are thrown out like trash. Immigrant women stay silent out of fear of deportation.”
Ali says she’s not just reading these stories—she’s living them.
Real-Life Rescues
Somy doesn’t just lead the organization—she’s out in the field.
“I’ve pulled victims out of police stations, motels, hospital ERs, and gas station alleys. Just last month, I carried a pregnant teen out of a trailer. She was chained like an animal.”
She’s removed lice from young girls’ hair. She’s comforted incest survivors at abortion clinics.
“Why? Because I know what it feels like to scream silently.”
A Survivor Herself
Ali is open about her own abuse. And how society responded with silence.
“I was that girl once. Told to be quiet. And now, my abuser walks free. Celebrated. Worshipped.”
She says Bollywood erased her, and friends vanished after she spoke out.
“That silence? It’s another kind of violence. A betrayal that cuts deep.”
Purpose Over Legacy
Despite it all, Somy has found her strength in purpose.
“If burning my Bollywood legacy saves even one life, it’s worth it.”
She’s made a large personal donation to No More Tears—not for recognition, but to keep others alive.
“If I have a single dollar, it belongs to them before it belongs to me.”
Giving Back to Her Roots
Somy also donated to India’s PM CARES fund, not out of politics, but love.
“When India hurts, I hurt. This is my way of saying—I haven’t forgotten where I come from.”
A Call to Action
Somy urges everyone to take part in the fight.
“Share our stories. Volunteer. Raise your sons to respect women. That’s activism.”
“Don’t wait until it’s your daughter. Don’t wait until it’s your son.”
Final Words
“We don’t need more silence. We need a revolution. Visit www.NoMoreTearsUSA.org. If Bollywood can forget me, maybe you can remember why this matters. Because I will never stop fighting. Not now. Not ever.”
