A Major Milestone for the Nonprofit
Former Bollywood actress Somy Ali is celebrating a meaningful milestone. Her nonprofit organisation No More Tears (NMT) has now completed 20 years of humanitarian work.
To mark the occasion, Somy shared an emotional throwback video from 2008. In the clip, she is honoured at a small gathering for her efforts to help survivors of abuse, violence, and human trafficking.
Notably, No More Tears was founded in 2006. Since then, the organisation has focused on rescuing victims, supporting them, and helping them rebuild their lives. Over the years, the initiative has grown significantly and continues to give survivors the chance to start again.
Somy Ali Reflects on the Journey
Meanwhile, Somy opened up about the emotional experience of revisiting the organisation’s early days. Sharing the video on social media, she admitted that watching the old clip brought back many memories.
According to Somy, No More Tears has rescued and empowered more than 5,000 people. In addition, the organisation’s wider work has impacted over 50,000 lives so far.
Looking back, she described the journey as “surreal.” At the same time, she emphasised that the organisation’s success was only possible because of the people who supported the mission from the beginning.
Through her throwback post, Somy dedicated the milestone to every volunteer, supporter, and team member who believed in the cause during its early stages.
Gratitude for Two Decades of Support
Furthermore, Somy expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been part of the organisation over the past two decades.
Over the years, many individuals joined the mission. While some eventually moved on, others stepped in and helped the organisation grow into what it is today.
Despite facing challenges along the way, Somy said the support of countless people kept the organisation moving forward. Because of this, she called them the “real heroes” behind the success of No More Tears.
Throwback Video Highlights Early Recognition
Interestingly, the throwback video also features Shannon from CBS, who spoke highly of Somy’s dedication during the event.
In the clip, Shannon recalls meeting Somy three years earlier while working on a feature about inspirational individuals. She described Somy as someone deeply committed to helping women escape abusive relationships.
Moreover, Shannon noted that in just a few years, Somy had already helped several survivors leave dangerous situations and rebuild their lives.
A Mission Rooted in Personal Experience
During the event, Somy also addressed the audience and shared the personal experiences that inspired her mission.
She revealed that she witnessed domestic violence during her childhood and teenage years, which had a lasting impact on her.
Because of these experiences, she felt determined to work toward a future where others would not have to endure similar pain.
At the same time, Somy emphasised that the work of No More Tears has always been a collective effort. Many individuals, she said, have contributed their time and support to help the organisation grow.
In conclusion, she encouraged everyone to take a stand against injustice and domestic violence, reminding them that meaningful change begins with awareness and action.
