BENGALURU, June 4, 2025 — What started as a massive party celebrating Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally winning the IPL turned awful fast. A stampede broke out just outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, and it’s just heartbreaking. At least 11 people, including a child, died, and over 50 are hurt. All those fans were there to celebrate the team’s big win amid the stampede.
Celebration Turns to Chaos
The whole thing happened during a victory parade that was planned. The RCB players were supposed to be honored by the state’s Chief Minister. Even though they canceled the open-top bus parade because they were worried about the crowds, tons of fans still showed up near the stadium. Things got out of hand when people without tickets tried to push their way in, and it turned into a deadly stampede crush.
Emergency Response and Political Fallout
Getting help to the injured was a nightmare because the stampede crowd was so thick. Reports say ambulances couldn’t get through. Police even used batons to try and break up the crowd. The Deputy Chief Minister admitted they couldn’t control the situation, saying, “The crowd was just too much. The police couldn’t handle it, so we had to stop the event.”
Of course, this tragedy has caused a political storm. The state BJP President is ripping into the government for how they handled things and wants a full investigation.
Mourning and Calls for Answers
The Prime Minister said he was deeply saddened by what happened, calling it “absolutely heartrending” and sending his prayers to those who were hurt. The BCCI also expressed their sadness and said better planning is needed for managing big crowds to prevent another stampede in the future.
Right now, the focus is on helping the victims and figuring out what went wrong. The RCB family and fans everywhere are grieving, as a day that should have been filled with joy has ended in stampede tragedy.
