A Laugh Riot with a Daring Twist
Netflix’s new Telugu original Super Subbu guarantees laughter, warmth, and a heart. The plot revolves around an unfortunate teacher who wishes to break free from his father’s shackles — to find himself teaching sex education in a backwater village. The surprise? He’s a virgin too! What ensues is a fun, madcap journey punctuated by love, embarrassment, and self-discovery.
Director Mallik Ram on Breaking Taboos
Director Mallik Ram maintains that the tale was drawing from life’s silence regarding sex education.
“Even today, everyone whispers about sex education. Parents don’t mention it, schools don’t touch it, and children are raised on myths. I wanted to make that silence laughable and relatable,” he explains.
Based in the make-believe village of Maakhipur, the series employs humor to initiate conversations on hard subjects.
“At its core, Super Subbu is a story about community, family, and finding strength in the most unexpected places,” Ram concludes.
Mithila Palkar: “A Refreshing and Quirky Story”
Actor Mithila Palkar describes the series as “a delicious blend of comedy and emotions.”
“It’s the story of Subbu — an unlucky kid trying to pursue his passion amidst small-town obstacles and a dominating father,” she explains.
She adds that the role is unlike anything she has done before.
“You’ll see me in a completely new avatar. It’s funny, emotional, and full of heart.”
Sandeep Kishan on Honest Storytelling
For Sandeep Kishan, Super Subbu reflects the new age of Indian storytelling.
We’re living in a time where stories are authentic and bold. When I listened to this script, I felt it captured an untold truth in a light-hearted manner,” he adds.
The actor opines that the show celebrates life’s small pleasures in a humorous and heartwarming way.
