The actor and creator have talked about how they always wanted to tell an origin story that shows Rambo as a young soldier before the events of First Blood, focusing on the emotional and mental scars that make him the anti-hero of the franchise.
Stallone has even talked about using advanced AI de-aging technology to play an 18-year-old John Rambo himself in the past. He said that the technology is now “sophisticated enough” to make it believable on the big screen. Stallone has made it clear that the heart of any origin film must stay true to the character’s roots in Vietnam and his descent from idealistic soldier to haunted survivor. This is true even though newer projects have a younger star like Noah Centineo linked to a Rambo prequel.
