Netflix and YRF Entertainment’s flagship series, The Railway Men, has become a global sensation. This gripping four-part mini-series, which premiered on November 18, has received rave reviews from audiences and critics worldwide. The series marks the first collaboration between Netflix and YRF Entertainment.
The Railway Men tells the inspiring story of the employees of the Indian Railways in Bhopal, who demonstrated extraordinary heroism on the night of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. These brave individuals risked their lives to save their fellow citizens, battling an unseen enemy in the air.
Setting a New Standard in Sustainable Filmmaking
A YRF Entertainment production, The Railway Men team successfully filmed on a near zero-waste set. Despite the challenges of a large cast, a massive set, and numerous crew members, YRF Entertainment significantly reduced its carbon footprint at the Kalina, Mumbai sets.
From December to March, the production generated 19,786 kgs of waste. Impressively, 19,311.2 kgs of this were responsibly recycled, composted, or donated. Only 417.7 kgs were handed over to the municipality as waste, setting a new industry benchmark. The team implemented a systematic approach to waste management, using color-coded bins in English and Hindi for efficient segregation. Ground crews received comprehensive training on collecting and sorting recyclable waste.
Yogendra Mogre, Executive Producer at YRF Entertainment, said, “Our industry must do its bit to reduce the carbon footprint on our project sets. YRF has always been a company that walks the talk, and we are delighted that The Railway Men team has set an example within the fraternity for creating conscious shooting habits that also protect the environment.”
Embracing Sustainable Practices
The production also adopted sustainable practices such as using recyclable cutlery and crockery and limiting meal quantities to reduce food waste. Over 7000 kgs of excess food were donated to low-income communities. What sets The Railway Men apart is that only 0.6% of the waste was sent for co-processing or incineration, highlighting YRF’s remarkable commitment to environmental sustainability.
Inspired by true stories, this gripping series celebrates the indomitable spirit of humanity. It features a stellar ensemble cast, including R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyenndu, Babil Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Mandira Bedi, among others.
