Thorsten Ritter, who was vice president of Beta Cinema for more than ten years, has joined Weydemann Bros to set up and run their new office in Munich. With this move, the company is expanding beyond Berlin and Cologne. It will focus on international production and co-productions, especially in the UK and English-language films. The appointment fits with Germany’s goal of becoming a global production center as new streaming funding programs are being put in place.
During his time at Beta, Ritter was in charge of international sales for Weydemann Bros.’ hit movie System Crasher (2019), as well as for movies like I’m Your Man, Happy Prince, and Woman at War. He helped start the Oldenburg International Film Festival and was in charge of sales at Bavaria Film International, where he promoted movies like Head-On and Let the Right One In. His knowledge of sales and networks will help Weydemann Bros grow in tough projects.
The company was started in 2012 by brothers Jonas and Jakob Weydemann. Since then, it has made well-known independent films like Nora Fingscheidt’s The Outrun (2024), Amanda Nell Eu’s Tiger Stripes (Cannes Critics’ Week winner 2023), and Chile’s Oscar entry The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo (2025). Jonas Weydemann said that Ritter’s creativity and shared history made him the perfect person to help the team grow.
