Two countries and one day in History !
India gained its liberty and became a free country at the midnight hour , between August 14 and August 15, 1947. It was then that the free India’s first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru gave his famous “Tryst with Destiny” speech. People across India are reminded of the meaning of this event – that it marked the start of a new era of deliverance from the British colonialism that took place in India for more than 200 years. But apart from being an independent nation, a grim reality stays with us that , that fateful night a country was divided. A division that’s largely written in the history of the world and is a reminder of the fact that innumerable lives were displaced and numerous sacrifices were made. India & Pakistan; the two hard realities of August 15th, 1947 came into existence. May peace bestow upon these two countries!
