A major outage that began on January 14, 2026, is still causing problems for Verizon customers all over the US. It affects voice, text, and data. When there is no signal, phones go into “SOS” mode, and there have been more than 180,000 reports on Downdetector.
New York City, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, and Portland are the cities with the most problems. New York and Washington warned people that 911 might not work and told them to use landlines or other carriers in case of an emergency. Our top priority is to get you back online.”Engineers are still looking into the problem, and no cause or timeline for repairs has been given.
