Zelensky-Trump Talks Advance Ukraine-Russia Peace Deal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump talked recently about how to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. These talks are part of ongoing efforts that started in early 2025. They show Trump’s desire for a quick peace deal, even though there have been tensions in the past. Zelensky has said he is ready to move forward with US-backed plans as long as they include security guarantees.

Continuing Work for Peace

The Trump administration has helped with many rounds of talks, including secret ones in Abu Dhabi and Berlin, all in the hopes of getting a deal that is closer than ever. Zelensky agreed to work out better terms for a fair resolution, but there are still disagreements over things like Donbas territory and NATO goals. European allies have almost always been part of recent coalitions, which has made it more likely that progress will be made.

Problems and Stress

There were problems at previous meetings, with reports of shouting matches and Trump repeating Russian stories about concessions. Zelensky wants weapons like Tomahawk missiles to use as leverage, but Trump says diplomacy is more important than weapons and warns of the risks of not making a deal. There hasn’t been a final ceasefire yet because Russia won’t agree to any of the proposals.
