Director Kabir Khan indeed knows his craft at film making. To recreate India Team winning its first World Cup in 1983 with Captain Kapil Dev leading their team to victory is a film and concept that is going to enthrall its audience from start to finish.
Ranveer Singh is a revelation yet again, in portraying young Kapil Dev. He has literally transformed himself to speak and look exactly like him. You forget he is Ranveer Singh. For those who never experienced the excitement of that game, it has been recreated, with excitement, humor, and passion.
The film has a whole variety of casts that make up this team. From Saqeeb Salim as Amarnath, and Ammy Virk as Sandhu, it is the guy who plays Shrikanth’s role that is the surprise packet of this film as well. Deepika Padukone as Kapil Dev’s supporting wife plays the role perfectly, and is their for the support of the team.
The film is more than India winning against the West Indies that year at Lord’s stadium in England. It is about unity, humility, and respect that all sportsman should get. As a nation that struggled in that sport. To be acknowledged and have its own country be proud, is the theme of this true story that will make you want to salute the sentiments of this film.
It is indeed a feel good film where you the audience will come out cheering at the end.
