Woodbridge, New Jersey (USA)

‘Chalo India’ is the event that is synonymous with festivities & celebrating the spirit of India. This 3-day event guarantees to entertain and inform while providing an opportunity to people in USA to connect with their roots. And this was the exact feeling, the huge crowd experienced at the India Day Parade on Oaktree Road in New Jersey on Sunday afternoon.

A large tent was constructed outside the office of ‘Chalo India’, and was decorated beautifully with colorful standees and posters of the upcoming event. The entire team of ‘Chalo India’ was dressed in the colors of the Indian Flag as they sang and danced to the theme song of the event. As the curious crowds passed by, they joined in and danced along, to the patriotic music and the signature song that played in the background. In no time, the booth turned into the main center of attraction. It seemed almost like a scene from a Hindi film, where the street was filled with people as they enjoyed every moment, despite the sweltering heat.

The curious crowd stopped by the booth to get more information of the ‘Chalo India’ event. One of the members of ‘Chalo India’ handed out free sun glasses to all people on the streets that came to watch the parade and also to the participants at the parade. People were thrilled to see the enthusiasm and the infectious energy of all the team members of ‘Chalo India’. Members on the float at the parade couldn’t stop themselves from taking pictures of this euphoria, that continued attracting the people. Several dignitaries such as Congressman Frank Pallone, Senator Sam Thompson, Chairman of TV Asia, Mr HR Shah, Community leader Dr. Navin Mehta and many more, stopped by as they too shook a leg with the team.

As the float carrying the Grand Marshall Anupam Kher passed by, one could see that he was visibly surprised when he stopped in front of the ‘Chalo India’ group. He took some videos on his phone and shook hands with Mr Sunil Nayak – the chief organizer of ‘Chalo India’, as Mr Nayak joined him on the float. Several other floats that passed by, made a stop at the ‘Chalo India’ booth as they all took pictures of this very attractive spot on the street.
