PAATAL LOK – I finally got to finish the 9 – Part mini-series of the Amazon Prime Presentation, which is also, produced by Anushka Sharma. Its called “PAATAL LOK”  It means “The Underworld”, or you could say “Hell – Down Under”.

It has that Anurag Kayshap/ Sacred Games flavor, but it unfolds with its own style, depicting cops getting sandwiched by the dark underbelly of  New-Delhi’s top shady politicians, along with crooked seedy gangsters from UP, making New Delhi a hot bed for crime to flourish.

The first 2 episodes may feel a bit predictable, but like many web-series, it takes its course to unfold beautifully. Every main character is like an onion. You have to peel the layers to get to their true frustrations and their true goals, Are their characters morals and humanity being tested for the better good of life? Then you have to see “PAATAL LOK”

Actor – Jaideep Ahlawat who reminds me of the long gone Bharat Kapoor does, play Inspector Hathiram Chaudary. He finally gets his dues as the Police officer, who is on an investigative hunt with his partner, played by Ishwak Singh. Somehow after arresting 4 criminals, things go for a dark turn, and most of his leads close the roads on him. As a result he gets suspended and screwed along the way. There is a lot more to this premise and theme. His rocky relationship with his wife and child, are well executed.

Along with this, is another protagonist that plays a TV Anchor that comes off as a hard hitting news anchor, played by Neeraj Kabi. He is also great. You get to see if these characters are either honest, or have something to hide, or rather make news that seems believable for the audience to accept,

Many other known characters do lend their hand like, Gul Panag, Rajesh Sharma, Anup Jalota, and Akash Khurana.to make “PAATAL LOK” an intriguing and gripping series to watch on Amazon.

Please note the language and certain scenes are gruesome, and some are sexual. It is for a mature audience. The series gets a 3 and half star recommendation. Enjoy!! Courtesy – Awesome TV & Being Filmy
