CHHAPAAK – Director Meghna Gulzar knows her craft well. She is evolving her style and getting better with each topic she gets challenged to make. Her narrations always unfold from the character cast, and always unfolds slowly in layers so that one can understand the complexity of what is the truth, and who can one trust in an ordeal like this.

Based on a true story about acid being thrown on a girl, is as horrifying as one is being raped. Actress Deepika Padukone plays the girl who becomes a victim of this acid attack on her face. What is so compelling, is that she has portrayed her role with much restrain, and simplicity. She is like a common lower middle class person who comes from simple needs and aspirations.

She has done a commendable job. “Chapaak” is an intense and gripping film, where it shows how Courts & High Courts can take a long time to get to a proper verdict., and laws that need to be amended and enforced. But what good is that when “Rape” and “Acid” throwing on someone has increased in India, rather than decreased in the past few years. The film gets a 3 and a half stars recommendation. Courtesy Awesome TV & BEING FILMY.
