SARDAR UDHAM – The film originally had Irfan Khan in the lead role of this biopic, but with his untimely demise, last year – Actor – Vicky Kaushal stepped into his shoes for this legendary role of a freedom fighter named – “SARDAR UDHAM” .

Based on true events that dealt with British East India rule before the partition is the premise of this film. Sert during the 1919 massacre at “Jallian Wala Bagh” in Amritsar India , which  takes up a big chunk of the story towards the latter part of the film may be gruesome and at times to lengthy to watch. But it is the pain, the anguish, and the helplessness that the direct wants you to re-live that experience, does get you and chokes you emotionally.

Vicky Kaushal has given an intense performance, and “Shoojit Sircar” direction to detail is on par to a Hollywood film. Yes the film has no songs and could have been better edited indeed, but I think the massacre and carnage scenes were long and drawn out were done intentionally. It is to make the audience feel like they are trapped with that crowd long format. To sum it up – “SARDAR UDHAM SINGH”. like many revolutionaries in the past and present had to accept the pain and suffering in order to get justice. A big sacrifice only a few can do, and that is with the price of their life. Now streaming on Amazon Prime.
