SERIOUS MEN – This week an interesting small Hindi film released on Netflix called,  “SERIOUS MEN”, which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead. He is the perfect character to to play these kind of roles.

He plays a lower caste, who wishes to change his son’s future by educating him better. In order to do so, he should be able to speak proper English, so that he can have a better life, and have an easier life than he did. Being always put down at his job, he feels degraded, and he makes it a point to make his future bright with his child. But his wrong doing was that he finds shortcuts to educate his son with college like level studies short notes, and using scientific theories to make his son appear like a genius. He aptly does so as a father by starting to feed him the lines through memorization, and through feeding him lines through his earpiece.

But like they say there are no short cuts in life. He wishes to live his successful dream and get respect through his child. He becomes manipulative and ends up trying to get endorsements through his child. That is when things head a roadblock, and creates a problem in their family. This secret is now out in the open. It is an offbeat film with a interesting narrative.

Every child wants to look up to their parent for acceptance, even seeks guidance when they stumble. Even if they are getting the wrong wisdom, they still wish to be the apple of their eyes. It is indeed a melancholy feeling watching this film, but refreshingly new to absorb. The film gets a 3 star recommendation. Courtesy Awesome TV & Being Filmy!
